As of 1/6/08, I'm considering the first draft of Black Hole Son complete. All 167,000 words of it. And there's still more to write. I still have to do a revision 1.5, add in all the bits that I considered, but I'm not going to do that for about six weeks or so. My kid will be born by then! But that's why I haven't been here. Had to concentrate on it.
So, in the meantime, I'm revising Blood 2. I originally was going to work on some short stories, but I figured I owed it to finish this monkey on my back. I'm not sure who I owe it to, but if I don't finish it, I don't know what I'm going to do with it. My plan is to release it as fan fiction, not to render it for publishing. I don't really see it as publishable. It's a sequel, it's fan fiction, and I still can see my "old style" of writing. Lots of long sentences, long paragraphs, and million dollar words. I'm cutting it so much I think I'm reducing it by 10% just per page. I really see what all the advice was talking about now - no need for prologues, no need for a big word when a small one will do.
I'm doing so much more style rewrites than structure rewrites. I wonder if it's either that the style rewrites are getting in the way, or that I'm just not doing good enough. It's not that I haven't thought of any. I'm just curious how much structure rewrite I'm supposed to be doing.Labels: Black Hole Son, Blood 2: The Unforgiven, revising
